What the fees actually are in 2026
The service fee number most guides quote is in the middle of being replaced, so it’s worth being precise about where it still applies.
DoorDash says it is “in the process of updating how we calculate fees so they better reflect how far an order travels and how much effort it takes to deliver it, in addition to the size of your order.” That rollout began in late July 2026 and is reaching markets over the following months — but it explicitly does not apply, to start, in California, Chicago, Colorado, the District of Columbia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York City, Puerto Rico, and Seattle.
In those nine excluded markets, the older published structure still holds: the service fee “may vary but is 15% of your subtotal for most orders (and 5% for most eligible DashPass restaurant orders).” Under the new structure, the service fee is instead described as variable — one “that varies with factors like distance and order size,” with a flat minimum that may apply.
Note the rollout is staged, not finished: DoorDash says it “will take place over the coming months,” so a market outside those nine may be on either structure right now. The honest takeaway isn’t a number, it’s that a fixed 15% is no longer safe to assume — check your own checkout screen.
What DashPass changes, on an eligible order:
Delivery fee: $0
Service fee: reduced, not removed — 5% for most eligible restaurant orders in the nine markets above
Tip: unaffected — always optional, and 100% goes to the Dasher
One caveat we can’t resolve from DoorDash’s documentation: these benefits are written for an order placed by a member, and nothing we found says whose membership governs a shared cart with several payers. If that matters to your group, assume nothing and check the checkout total. What DashPass certainly does not change is which payment mode the cart is in — that was decided when it was created.
